SCOPE OF DIGITAL MARKETING IN 2022

SCOPE OF DIGITAL MARKETING IN 2022

Whether you wake up early or are someone who sleeps all through the morning, the first thing you do is pick up your phone, go through all the notifications, and probably explore your social media handles for a bit of time. That’s how intertwined the internet and our lives have become. Companies worldwide are now realising that the conventional and archaic methods of promoting their products and services would no longer result in the type of hype they want to create. They have to “advertise in bytes to catch customers’ attention.” In other words, they have to market their product digitally.

EMERGENCE OF DIGITAL MARKETING

Companies advertise their products digitally through various platforms like Social media, Search engines, E-mails, SMSs, and chatbots, just to name a few. To emphasise the importance of digital marketing in today’s corporate world, the Global Digital Ad spend reached $389 billion in 2021, with a 17% increase compared to 2020. US social media ad spending reached $43 billion in 2020, and only Facebook’s ad spending exceeded $31billion.

The launch of JIO in 2016 by the Reliance Industries in India marked the start of India becoming one of the most significant Internet users in the world. India currently has an internet data user base of 845.68 million, and with the current growth rate, it will reach an astounding figure of 1 billion.

WHY IS IT SO EFFECTIVE

Now the question is, why is digital advertising becoming so popular and will it continue to gain popularity at this pace in the coming time. Digital marketing works its way to you through your electronic devices via the internet. Internet, nowadays, has become a need of every person. I think it is not too far-fetched to say that it is a human right in this technologically biased era. Everyone is using the internet for some purpose or the other, be it shopping, studying, reading or anything else, and what could be better for companies than to slip an ad or two about their product so it can capture your attention. If it is good, you might actually check it out. The Internet is the answer to the question, ‘how do you spread your message to many people in a lot less time?’ The internet penetrates the public like no other form of mass media. It reaches millions of people across the globe in milliseconds. Because of this widespread internet reach, the concept of regional or even national markets is slowly disappearing. This is precisely why digital advertising is so powerful. This is why every company spends humongous amounts of money advertising their product digitally. Marketing through electronic platforms helps the companies to

  • Reach potential customers on a global level.
  • Engage with the customers.
  • Create awareness and hype about their brand.
  • Sell and product services.
  • Earn higher ROI ( return on investment ).

COVID AND ITS IMPACT

Covid-19 has had a significant effect on basically every business around the world. The pandemic struck everyone, from retail shopkeepers to big multinational companies. Lockdowns worldwide made people stay inside their homes and watch their TV and mobile screens for unrecommended and awfully long periods. It was an ideal time to flourish and prosper for something like digital marketing.

Companies are finding various new ways to advertise their products. The Quora market and PAA (people also ask) section in various google searches worldwide are among the most popular advertising methods. If you can answer any of the questions your potential customers’ questions, you have a higher chance of converting those potential customers into actual ones. Reels on Instagram and Youtube Shorts are basically the go-to source for entertainment these days. In my opinion, advertising through short 15–30 sec videos is the best way to go. Videos engage people a lot more than written ads. Statistics show that Instagram advertising tactics like Reels ads reached over 928 million users in 2020. The chart below shows that short videos in the form of reels, TikToks, and youtube shorts generate the most percentage of responses.

Even better than reels are memes. You will agree that some memes are stuck in your head and make you laugh every time you remember them. Nothing could be better for your company if the meme is stuck inside the head of its customer and reminds them of their product now and then. I would say the goal of marketing is accomplished. 55% of 13–35-year-olds send memes every week, and 30% send them every day. An average millennial looks at 20–30 memes a day. According to studies, traditional marketing (on Facebook and Instagram) yields about 5% of engagement, whereas memes earn about 60% of the attention. CTRs in average marketing is approx. 6%, whereas in meme marketing is roughly 14%. If you are bored with facts, let’s look at some memes :)

CONCLUSION

There is no doubt that digital marketing will continue growing exponentially and soon will become one of the most exciting and rewarding career options for youth. In this age where people look at their phones and laptops more than in the mirror, there is no better way to advertise your product than social media and other digital platforms.
